The Bike Rack was founded in 1973 by pharmacists, Jim Ballard and Tom Martin. Jim had begun his cycling career long before the "10 Speed" craze of the '70's. Tom, a recent college grad, was working with Jim at a local hospital pharmacy. Seeing what great conditioning bicycling had done for Jim, Tom purchased a used Raleigh and started riding. As the two rode and became knowledgeable of the bicycle industry, the idea of sharing their experience and passion via a retail store became a reality in November, 1973.
